Crystal Palace back Geoff Thomas in latest Tour de France quest

Palace will also be launching a brand new GT8 fitness range in early June, perfect for any cycling fanatics keen to support Geoff on his quest with 25% of the net revenue going towards Cure Leukaemia. Cure Leukaemia, announced by the Tour de France as the first official Charity Partner in the UK for the next three years, recorded a £1,700,000 fundraising shortfall in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Tour 21 team aim to help the charity address this shortfall by completing all 3,384km of the world’s most famous and prestigious professional cycling event. All funds raised by The Tour 21 team will be invested in the national Trials Acceleration Programme (TAP) which has been solely funded by Cure Leukaemia since January 2020. TAP is a network of specialist research nurses at 12 blood cancer centres located in the UK’s biggest cities and a facilitatory hub based at the Centre for Clinical Haematology.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is implementing a new clinical trial which will give blood cancer patients access to a promising, active lower intensity treatment option. The VICTOR clinical trial, which is funded by Cancer Research UK and led by Dr Richard Dillon from Guy’s Hospital in London, will examine the efficacy of venetoclax-based treatment in treating certain groups of older patients with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). If found to be effective, the treatment could spare future patients some of the more toxic effects of traditional intensive chemotherapy.
