2022 Philippine Elections: Journalists vow to empower voters

PHILIPPINE journalists and various media organizations recently signed a pledge “to provide accurate, reliable and essential information that will empower voters and encourage public discussion and debate” in the lead-up to the nation’s May 2022 national elections.
“Every election is a reckoning for democracy,” read the document “Election 2022 Pledge for Journalists and Media Organizations,” which the journalists have signed. The Pledge points out their duties and responsibilities as “journalists reporting on another critical moment for our country.”

Tomorrow, 17 July, marks the World Day for International Justice. In celebration of this day, the Global Centre for the Responsibility to Protect commends the enduring commitment of various states, multilateral institutions and civil society to upholding their responsibility to protect by pursuing justice for genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. This annual commemoration is an important moment to acknowledge achievements made in fighting impunity and to raise awareness about the challenges that remain.
The past year saw two landmark legal cases.
