Graton Resort & Casino Suddenly Axes 4,000-Person New Year s Eve Party
After piquing the attention of Sonoma County health officials and worried members of the public, the NYE shindig at Graton Resort & Casino in Rohnert Park which had all the makings of possibly becoming a regional superspreader event has been canceled.
Christmas Eve saw a mask-less, indoor church service in San Jose. The days preceding Christmas broke a post-March record for air travel in the country; a new, more communicable strain of COVID-19 was found to be emerging from the United Kingdom and South Africa. But nonetheless: Graton Casino in Sonoma County was still keen to gather thousands of people together to ring in 2021 a span of twelve months we re all hoping will see an end to this pandemic.
A San Jose church is continuing to defy COVID-19 public health orders with plans to host an indoor Christmas Eve service, even as fines and court orders pile up.
In an email to ABC7 News, Sarris would not comment on why the event was canceled, only saying that the casino continues to work closely with the county. He went on to write that, Graton Resort & Casino will remain open on a limited basis and continues to exceed all CDC safety requirements.
Sonoma County officials may not have been in support of the big bash, but did praise Graton for extra precautions it had in place.
Graton Resort and Casino in Rohnert Park had plans for a massive New Year's Eve party with up to 4,000 guests. It raised red flags for Sonoma County health officials. The event has since been canceled.

Graton Casino in Sonoma County to Host 4,000-Person New Year s Eve Party
The Graton Resort & Casino in Sonoma County, which is on the sovereign land of the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria, is hosting a 4,000-person private event on New Year s Eve. And while county health officials are not happy about it, they can t do anything to stop it.
The casino and resort has remained opened despite the fact that Sonoma County never left the state s Purple tier for COVID spread, and it is technically supposed to be operating at 20% capacity. Reps for Graton Rancheria say that the 4,000-person party will effectively limit capacity at the casino with total capacity apparently being 20,000. It s not clear who gets on the guest list (presumably some repeat customers and high rollers?), and the casino says they have social-distancing and mask rules in place, as ABC 7 reports.
