Twitter-backer Sozo Ventures seeks $500m for new fund

US and Japan-based cross-border venture capital firm Sozo Ventures is seeking to raise $500 million for a new fund that will likely continue to make investments in the two countries where it is located, a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission shows.

The spike in electric bike sales was one of the rosier outcomes of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, new legislation introduced this past week by U.S. representatives Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) and Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) could push sales even higher. The Electric Bicycle Incentive Kickstart for the Environment (E-BIKE) Act proposes creating a consumer tax credit that would cover 30% of the cost of an electric bicycle up to a $1,500 credit. The proposed bill applies to new electric bicycles that cost less than $8,000 and is fully refundable, allowing lower-income workers to claim the credit, according to Panetta’s announcement.

Smart loading dock tech startup Kargo announced Thursday it closed on a $6 million seed round. The round was led by Founders Fund and included Sozo Ventures, Accomplice and Hanover as well as technology executives.
The San Francisco-based company s loading dock control tower, Argus, verifies incoming and outgoing freight and aggregates data, which allows shippers and carriers to manage dock operations.

The autonomous system uses sensors and cameras to scan shipping labels and verify the freight on the dock against the advanced shipping notice. Users are notified of discrepancies and have the ability to swap out supplies in real time.
