Apex court rules: Every asset non-disclosure or mis-declaration not sufficient for permanent disqualification

National May 6, 2021 ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has ruled that it is the credibility of the explanation given by a contesting candidate or lawmaker that would be the determining factor in deciding whether the non-disclosure of an asset carries with it an element of dishonesty or not. It is now a well settled principle that every non-disclosure or mis-declaration is not sufficient grounds to permanently disqualify a lawmaker or contesting candidate, the ruling said, adding that the purpose and intention behind the non-disclosure or mis-declaration needs to be seen; the returned candidate would be disqualified only if he or she has dishonestly acquired assets and is hiding them to derive certain benefits.

Expats asset to country: IG

Lahore May 6, 2021 LAHORE:Inspector General of Police Punjab Inam Ghani has said that Pakistani citizens living abroad are the valuable asset of the country who not only have a prominent place in other countries through their hard work and ability but also through their remittances thus play a significant role in the economic development and solidarity of the country. He expressed these views in a meeting with a three-member delegation of the Overseas Pakistan Commission at the Central Police Office here on Wednesday. Talking to the delegation, the IG Punjab further said that Overseas Pakistanis are a very important part of the homeland and instructions have been issued to RPOs and DPOs to take all possible steps to alleviate their problems. He further added that, overseas Pakistanis can also easily access various services of Punjab Police Khidmat Markaz Global Portal from their own countries.
