CAMPAIGNERS are striving to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds in share capital to save a village’s last remaining pub for from permanent closure. The Manor, in Rectory Road, Great Holland, has been shut since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic and the landlords have no plans to reopen it. Blueprints to turn the 250-year-old establishment into a five-bedroom home had been submitted but then Tendring Council declared it an Asset of Community Value. As a result, The Manor Reborn group, made up of villagers attempting to rescue the popular watering hole, now have six weeks to show they intend on bidding for it.

Harrogate Rotary Club, said: We are heartened that Harrogate Borough Council has taken the decision to reject this application and that any further planned destruction of the Rotary Wood will be avoided. We will, with others, commit ourselves to ensuring that the loss of biodiversity, carbon capture and the loss of community value as an amenity are fully compensated.’
The chair of Zero Carbon Harrogate described the vote about Harrogate Spring Water s expanded plans as a pivotal decision.
Jemima Parker said: This is a pivotal decision by the Harrogate Borough Council Planning Committee. Zero Carbon Harrogate are delighted that the councillors clearly acknowledged that the world has changed.

The students on the scholarships will not be impacted by this decision and the scheme will continue for now, with funding provided directly by the college. Steve Elston, deputy bursar of St John’s College, said: “The Lamb & Flag, like many other businesses in the hospitality industry, has been hard hit by the pandemic. Despite the best efforts of the staff and looking at every option to keep it open, the trading figures of the last 12 months have meant that the pub is not currently financially viable.
