Coney Island s Original Goes Vegan - The New York Times

Coney Island’s Original Goes Vegan Nathan’s Famous has added a plant-based hot dog to its menu. Joey Chestnut now has a plant-based hot dog option at Nathan’s Famous.Credit.Emon Hassan for The New York Times April 26, 2021, 10:52 a.m. ET Like a number of other fast food chains, Nathan’s Famous, known for its hot dogs, has added a vegan option. It entered a partnership with the company Meatless Farm to create a plant-based version of its hot dog. The key to it is Nathan’s proprietary spice blend. (Nathan Handwerker developed his hot dog, made famous on Coney Island, more than 100 years ago.) On its own, the new vegan hot dog lacks snap and succulence, and though the spice comes through, it has a slightly vegetal flavor. The vegan hot dog makes its debut Monday online (a package of six plant-based hot dogs with buns and mustard, $49.99) and in the coming weeks at Natha

Delingpole: Kwasi Kwarteng Pushes the Great Vegan Reset

Delingpole: Kwasi Kwarteng Pushes the Great Vegan Reset UK Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng says he might go vegan to save the planet. Hmm. I’ve met this jolly, fruity voiced, Rabelaisian, Old Etonian child of privilege on a number of occasions. And I’d say the prospects of Kwarteng going vegan to stop global warming are about as likely as his chopping off his right testicle to achieve world peace. Here’s what Kwarteng claimed on Bloomberg TV. I’m certainly reducing my meat consumption, not only for environmental reasons but also for health reasons. I’m eating a lot more fish than I ever did before and maybe I can move to a full vegan diet at some point.

Planting the seeds of burger in Ireland

What’s the bull? Non–meat burgers are becoming more popular due to a perception that they are healthier for you and the planet. But what are these burgers made from, where is that coming from and what is the nutritional value? Veggie burgers are around since the early ’80s, and soya and tofu since the ’60s. Last October, the European Parliament voted to ensure that terms traditionally associated with meat-based products, such as “burger”, “sausage” and “steak”, could continue to be used to describe plant-based alternatives. However, MEPs voted to protect dairy terms such as “milk”, “butter” and “cheese”.

Earth Day 2021: The Best Vegetarian and Vegan Tasting Menus in Hong Kong and Macau

Culinary Director Richard Ekkebus reframed the focus of Amber long before he unveiled the restaurant’s new direction in 2019 to prioritise lighter, more refined flavours above the rich foods of yesteryear. Vegetables, to him, have always been more interesting, holding infinite potential and his decision to bring more into the fine dining sphere was not based on the direction of culinary trends, but “because it makes sense in our contribution to the environment.” At Amber, the tasting menu experience for vegetarians and even vegans, by request is by no means an afterthought, but a carefully considered journey that presents delicious surprises along the way in the form of intense nut oils, piquant berries and umami-packed mushrooms. His signature corn dish with salicornia, seawater and sudachi is, arguably, even more refined without the addition of caviar on the non-vegetarian menu. Other dishes such as XL white asparagus with morel, ratte potato, salted egg yolk, dill and extra
