Senate election 2021: PTI emerges as largest party with 26 seats

PPP and PML-N secured eight and five seats each in the Upper House of the Parliament out of 48 seats
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Despite major blow to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for losing Islamabad general seat to Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) candidate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, the ruling party has emerged largest political party with 26 seats in the Upper House of the Parliament.
According to unofficial results, the PTI managed to grab 18 seats, while Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secured eight and five seats respectively in the Upper House of the Parliament out of 48 seats.
Pakistan s Premier To Seek Vote Of Confidence
Senate upset indicates some members of ruling party voted for opposition candidate. Pakistan s Prime Minister Imran Khan will seek a vote of confidence from parliament following his party s unexpected defeat on a key Senate seat from the capital Islamabad on Wednesday.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Khan has decided to seek a vote of confidence from parliament.
The development came hours after an 11-party opposition alliance demanded the premier s resignation and fresh elections in the country following the Senate upset.
Rejecting the opposition s demand, Qureshi said that Khan will continue in office until the vote of confidence.
