PTI, MQM members clash at Sindh Governor House reception

KARACHI: The leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and coalition partners Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) exchanged heated arguments during a reception in the honour of MPAs of opposition parties at the Governor House on Friday.
During a reception for 65 lawmakers in the Sindh Assembly and joint Senate candidates held at the Governor House, PTI lawmakers Firdous Shamim Naqvi and Arsalan Taj and MQM-P’s Faisal Subzwari exchanged heated words against each other over various issues, according to the sources.
The Governor Sindh, Imran Ismail, later intervened and asked them to jointly work towards the success of their candidates, sources said. The PTI spokesperson, Jamal Siddiqui, denied reports of a spat between the PTI and MQM-P members during a meeting at the Governor House.

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday restored the returning officer’s order with regard to acceptance of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s candidate Saifullah Abro and directed the election commission to include the name of PTI candidate in the final list of Senate polls candidates from Sindh on the technocrat seat. The direction came on petition of the PTI candidate against rejection of his nomination papers for the Senate poll technocrat seat by the Senate appellate tribunal of SHC. The appellate tribunal for Senate poll in Sindh had rejected the nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s candidate Safiullah Abro for the Senate elections, observing that the PTI candidate did not qualify to fall in the domain technocrat seat.

Seventeen candidates from different political parties will be contesting the upcoming Senate election from Sindh, after the withdrawal of the nomination papers of as many nomination papers.
Of the contesting candidates, 11 belong to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), two to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as many to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and one each to the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
The candidates will contest the polls on 11 seats of Sindh in the Senate.
Among those whose nomination papers have been withdrawn, three are from the PPP, nine from the PTI, four from the MQM-P and one from the GDA.

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday allowed the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf candidate Saifullah Abro to contest the upcoming Senate election.
The two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar through a short order allowed the petitions of the PTI candidate against an order of the election tribunal and directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to include his name in the final list of candidates contesting the March 3 election of the upper house.
The PTI candidate through his lawyer filed petitions before the SHC challenging the decision of the election tribunal to disqualify him and pleaded to set aside its order and allow him to contest the election.
