Inos blames contractors, not government or CUC, for delays

SAIPAN, CNMI (Saipan Tribune, Sept. 16, 2014) – Gov. Eloy S. Inos made clear to lawmakers yesterday afternoon his administration’s plan to oppose the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s request for the federal court to appoint a receiver to implement some of the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s projects, among other things.
Lawmakers backed the governor’s position during a closed-door meeting that was also joined by CUC executive director Alan Fletcher on Capital Hill.

Fitial has reportedly not asked lawmakers to retract resolution

SAIPAN, CNMI (Saipan Tribune, Sept. 5, 2012) – Gov. Benigno R. Fitial told members of the House leadership yesterday that he will soon address the impeachment allegations against him, including those in connection with the 25-year power purchase agreement, even as his administration describes as frivolous the impeachment resolution that the House minority bloc will formally introduce today.
Fitial met with at least eight House leadership members over lunch yesterday, but the meeting was mostly on economic development plans, including making the CNMI a regional airline hub.

SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands (Sept. 12, 2000 – Saipan Tribune/Abridged -The Federal Aviation Administration has allocated almost $2.4 million in grants to the Commonwealth Ports Authority for the rehabilitation of Saipan International Airport s runway.
The total amount, $2.374 million, is being made available under the federal Airport Improvement Program.
The issuance of the grant is subject to approval of the project as finally formulated; CPA meeting the requirements set forth under the [Airport and Airway Safety and Capacity Expansion] Act; and the limits of obligational authority for the current fiscal year.

SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands (January 14, 1999 - Saipan Tribune) -Angered by a federal report citing inadequacies and failure of the Northern Marianas to reform its labor and immigration, CNMI leaders yesterday lashed back at the Department of the Interior for harping on biased and outdated allegations to pursue its federal takeover agenda in the U.S. Congress.
This is the first time that Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio and Lt. Gov. Jesus R. Sablan responded to a DOI report prepared by the Office of Insular Affairs since it was submitted to U.S. lawmakers late last year to justify the federalization of local minimum wage, immigration and customs laws.

SAIPAN, Northern Mariana Islands (August 24, 1999 Â Saipan Tribune) -The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has refused to reverse Saipan District Court Judge Alex Munson s order dismissing the complaint lodged by 23 nonresident workers in a class action lawsuit against Saipan s garment companies.
In dismissing the appeal filed by the anonymous plaintiffs, the appellate court said it would be premature to reverse Munson s decision because it was not a final order or judgment. A review of the district court docket reflects that the district court s order challenged in this appeal did not dispose of the action as to all claims and all parties, the appellate court s August. 18 order stated.
