The Sheridan Police Department announced Monday that four members of the department have earned promotion to the next rank. According to a media release from the PD, Sergeants James Hill and Danny Keller will be promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Upon promotion, Sergeant Hill will assume the command of the Support Services Bureau and Sergeant Keller will assume command of the Patrol Bureau.
Corporal Jacob Board will be promoted to the rank of sergeant and will assume command of a patrol team. Officer Chase Phillip will be promoted to corporal and will assume first line leadership responsibilities on one of four patrol teams. A promotion ceremony will take place Friday at 3 pm in Council Chambers at Sheridan City Hall.

Deadline for REAL ID pushed back again

The deadline to get your driver’s license transitioned to a REAL ID has been pushed back by the pandemic.
Iowa DOT Customer Services Bureau director, Darcy Doty says many states had their driver’s license offices closed for several months during the height of the outbreak.
“We were able to stay open, we had some limited capacity, but we were able to stay open to continue issuing REAL ID’s. Iowa’s in pretty good shape overall we have about 53 percent who have a credential with us 53 percent have a REAL ID,” Doty says.
After an eight-month program at the academy in Davidsonville, recruits will graduate today. During their time in training, each police recruit spent around 10 hours in the $500,000 VirTra simulator. It presents them with 900 real-life scenarios. From there, it's a few days to their first patrol.

With the pandemic, a lot of service centers across the nation closed to the public, and had some proclamations extending their current drivers licenses. Here in Iowa, we were able to maintain services says IDOT Customer Services Bureau director Darcy Doty.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security extended the Real ID deadline until May 3rd, 2023.
After that date, people who fly on a commercial airline or enter a federal building where they have to show ID will be required to have the enhanced identification.
