KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Friday expressed concerns that despite an encouraging economic recovery made during FY21, certain structural vulnerabilities could create hurdles for growth in FY22.
In its third quarterly report ‘The State of Pakistan’s Economy’, the SBP noted that in the agriculture sector, the secular decline in cotton production needs to be addressed.
“Timely availability of pest-resistant seed varieties and further support from agriculture extension departments, particularly to promote the adoption of climate-smart farming practices, could enable better outcomes,” the report said.

Japan developing export base in Pakistan, opens labour market for Pakistanis.
ISLAMABAD (APP) - Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Kuninori Matsuda said Wednesday that his country was focusing on developing a strong export base in Pakistan and was looking beyond the traditional sectors of textiles and automobiles.
During a call on meeting with Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Shaukat Tarin, the ambassador said that Japan saw opportunities of investing in food processing, fishing and agriculture.
He informed the minister that Japan was now embarking on a project of Human Resource exchange with Pakistan under which the Japanese labour market would be opened for highly skilled Pakistanis.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has invited the Japanese firms to start exporting automobiles from Pakistan.
The minister extended this invitation during a meeting with Ambassador of Japan Kuninori Matsuda who called on him on Wednesday. SAPM on Finance and Revenue Dr Waqar Masood was also present during the meeting.
The minister touched upon the new Auto policy which has offered incentives to the new investors and will have a far reaching impact on the development of the auto industry in Pakistan. He stated that with the introduction of the new Auto Policy, Japan has the opportunity to further its investments in the sector which in turn will be beneficial for both the countries.
