TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â There are still serious concerns the travel industry will continue getting hit hard by the pandemic. Hospitality groups are now teaming up with lawmakers to ask Congress to help give relief to hotels.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Hotels are bracing for a busy summer, but the lasting impact of the pandemic has many still trying to find the staff they need to keep up.
Daniel Blumenstock, the director of Lowcountry Hotels, said leisure travelers have returned to the Palmetto State in full force.
“We’re probably 1,000-something percent ahead of last year. It’s a night and day difference,” Blumenstock said.

The bill, dubbed the Save Hotel Jobs Act, would be the first to give targeted relief to hotels. Businesses in the industry thus far have been relying on relief from Payroll Protection Program (PPP) loans and other provisions from COVID-19 relief packages.
The legislation would direct payroll grants to be utilized for payroll and benefit expenses for workers and require hotels that receive grants to give laid-off workers recall rights to get back to work.

It also would provide a personal protective equipment tax credit, which would allow a payroll tax credit for 50 percent of the costs of personal protective equipment, technology to reduce the impact of the pandemic, testing for employees and enhanced cleaning.

The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) and UNITE HERE, the largest hospitality workers union in North America, today joined forces to call on Congress to pass the Save Hotel Jobs Act. The bill, introduced by U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) and U.S. Representative Charlie Crist (D-Fla.), provides a lifeline to hotel workers, providing the assistance they need to survive until travel returns to pre-pandemic levels.
