State health officials asked Texas vaccine providers to pause their use of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine early Tuesday after U.S. health officials recommended that states temporarily stop distributing the vaccine “out of an abundance of caution.”
The pause on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine came after a rare and severe type of blood clot was reported in six women across the nation after getting the shot. None of the six happened in Texas, state health officials said. About 500,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have been administered in Texas, according to a statement by the Texas Department of State Health
La Palmera to host standing COVID-19 vaccine clinic
A standing COVID-19 vaccine clinic at La Palmera and a program to vaccinate homeless people are in the works, Corpus Christi and Nueces County officials said Thursday.
The La Palmera clinic will launch Tuesday and will be open Monday through Sunday during regular mall hours, public health director Annette Rodriguez said during the city and county’s weekly COVID-19 briefing.
People can pre-register or register on site, Rodriguez said. Officials hope to have at least 100 doses available every day.

The clinic will be in the former Charming Charlie location near Grimaldi’s, Rodriguez said.

AUSTIN, Texas (KLTV) - Thirteen East Texas counties have been added to the Save Our Seniors program aimed at vaccinating seniors.
The East Texas counties added are Cass, Henderson, Hopkins, Marion, Rains, Sabine, San Augustine, Shelby, Titus, Trinity, Upshur, Van Zandt, Wood.
The Texas Division of Emergency (TDEM) and the Texas Military Department (TMD) work alongside local jurisdictions to set up a central drive-through vaccine clinic in each community or administer directly to homebound seniors these decisions are driven by local officials as they identify vulnerable residents in their communities to participate in this program.

Last week Gov. Greg Abbott announced that the Save Our Seniors program, aimed at providing in-home immunizations to homebound Texas seniors, expanded to Hidalgo County.
McAllen residents who are homebound and unable to get to a vaccination clinic can dial 3-1-1 or 681-3111 for assistance. A McAllen 3-1-1 customer service specialist will take the information, in English or Spanish, from callers and will then submit the information to the state for processing.

LOCKHART, Texas One thing Caldwell County Judge Hoppy Haden said the county s residents did particularly well during the pandemic so far, was keeping businesses afloat, as the town square in Lockhart has livened up again. As we ve gone through this and as restrictions have eased a bit, the square is very lively, Judge Haden told KVUE on Wednesday. Amazingly enough though, right here on the square, our businesses have managed to stay in business. We ve had some grants through the County and the City and everybody survived it so far. And now we re coming back.
