SOUTH BERWICK, Maine – A proposal to allow recreational marijuana retail stores in all of the town s zoning districts sparked outcry Wednesday from several South Berwick residents.
During a public hearing, the Town Council was presented with a five-page memorandum from the town Planning Board stating the board s opinion and recommendations for this proposed ordinance change.
Eric Bergendahl, who owns medical marijuana dispensary Nature’s Miracle on Ogunquit Road, submitted two petitions that collected enough signatures to put forward a referendum on the community s June 2021 ballot. The first petition would allow for adult-use marijuana retail stores, and the second petition is for cultivation and manufacturing facilities. Both would be allowed in all zoning districts, if passed.
