Third grade students at Steins Pillar join partnership with Delta Waterfowl to create mallard nests for the Crooked River Wetlands
As the weather becomes more moderate and the sunshine invites young scholars outside, many classes are participating in school projects, while basking in the lambent radiance of a spring day.
Last week, a classroom of third graders were immersed in a project that resulted in the culmination of creating a number of mallard houses. The project was a partnership between Steins Pillar Elementary students, the City of Prineville and Delta Waterfowl.
Delta Waterfowl, which was founded as a research organization, is The Duck Hunters Organization, which is a leading conservation group founded at the famed Delta Marsh in Manitoba, Canada, with its United States headquarters in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Nature Nights: Reciprocity with the Natural World Join the Deschutes Land Trust and Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer for a talk on our connections with the natural world. Drawing upon both scientific and indigenous knowledge, Dr. Kimmerer will explore the idea of reciprocity, how we might use the gifts of the Earth, and the responsibilities that humans have to support the mutual thriving of ourselves and the world around us. This presentation is free and ticket sales open one month prior to the event.

With virtual museum tours, zookeeper talks or free online courses, the many ways to expand our minds has certainly increased. One such opportunity is coming soon to our Central Oregon community: The Deschutes Land Trust has moved its annual Nature Night series to the virtual world and is hosting Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer for a talk on Restoration and Reciprocity for its March Nature Night.
