Rapido Trains, Inc., announced last Friday that it will be producing two all-new HO scale freight cars – the iconic Northeastern-style Steel Caboose and the Santa Fe Rr-56/60/61 Mechanical Reefer.
Though other manufacturers have produced replicas of this caboose in the past, Rapido is promising to produce the most accurate and highly detailed replicas of the classic Northeastern-style Steel Caboose yet. The prototype design was first built by the Reading Railroad and the design soon became popular with other carriers.
“Rapido’s all-new HO scale model has been developed from original blueprints, photos and field measurements,” the company writes. “We have included several variations and additional details to accurately model these cabooses from the beginning to the end of their service lives.”

Atlas Model Railroad Co. Inc. has announced that it is releasing a new run of its HO scale General Electric U30C locomotive that will feature all-new tooling.
While Atlas has offered Phase II and Phase III U30C models before, this run will represent a Phase 1 version of the locomotive, of which there were 24 built.
The first U30Cs were built with a radiator design outwardly similar to U28Cs, featuring a tall rectangular section sitting at the peak of the radiator section. Phase I U30Cs were built between November 1966 and July 1967, with final U30C production concluding in October of 1976.
Jacksonville Terminal Releases New 53’ Intermodal Containers

Jacksonville Terminal Company is releasing new N scale 53-foot intermodal containers, including two for current domestic carriers and three in schemes paying tribute to a trio of iconic model railroads.
The prototype releases are two new 53-foot corrugated domestic intermodal containers painted for Hub Group (HGIU) in salmon orange and Twin Logistics (TLGU) in medium green. Each model is created from tooling customized to each prototype. Each of these models features the appropriate number of side corrugations (8-55-8) and correct nose and rear door designs corresponding to prototype road numbers.
