Council issue first pandemic recovery update – “Be optimistic. But be careful too.”
The first ‘recovery briefing’ has been circulated by Wrexham Council, the first since they moved from providing pandemic response updates to detailing the recovery process.
Wrexham Council have also said in a general pandemic briefing note, “It’s amazing news and feels like we’re firmly on the path to recovery after a horrid 12 months or more. Further easing of restrictions on Monday will see – among other things – indoor service resume in pubs, restaurants and cafes across Wales, and it’s another welcome step towards normality.”
“But we need to stay alert. We’ve seen lots of twists in this pandemic, and even this week we’ve seen fresh concerns about the so-called ‘Indian variant’ of the virus. So sticking to the basics – social distancing, fresh air, wearing a mask and washing our hands – is still hugely important.

Mosques across the region hosted their first Eid al-Fitr prayers in two years. In what is a rare occasion in recent years all Muslims across the UK celebrated Eid on the very same day meaning mosques had to host staggered morning prayers (Thursday May 13) . The Eid festival to mark the end of Ramadan took place within a strict lockdown last year and all mosques had to remain closed. This year there was a slightly subdued atmosphere with ongoing thoughts prayers for the people of Palestine. Due to Covid restrictions capacities at mosques were still limited. All attendees were asked to wear masks, bring their own prayers mats and in some of the mosques children under 12 were not permitted.

Pub of the Week - The Chester on Chester Street
Picture by Ed Nix The manager of an independent pub in east Oxford has said drinkers are delighted to be back and have been enjoying beers at 100 outdoor seats. Under the Government’s latest timetable for unlocking coronavirus restrictions, pubs and restaurants have been able to serve customers outside since April 12. Now, almost a month on, landlady Beccy Webb said The Chester Arms in Chester Street off Iffley Road has been extremely busy and she is looking forward to the next phase when pubs will be allowed to reopen indoors again from May 17.
