DULUTH, Minn. – The chairlift here at Chester Bowl suffered a mechanical difficulty after more than a week of frigid temperatures, but thankfully, crews at Spirit Mountain came to the rescue.
“The cold is very hard on machines and that’s exactly what the chair lift is,” said Sam Luoma, the programs and operations manager for Chester Bowl.
Just like most machinery, chairlifts aren’t meant to handle extreme subzero temperatures and because of this, the one at Chester Bowl stopped working..

DULUTH, Minn. – Chester Bowl is back open for business this winter and many families are taking advantage of all the activities the park has to offer.
“The season has just been wonderful. People are excited to be out doing something active and social,” said Dave Schaeffer, Executive Director of Chester Bowl.
Chester Bowl offers ski and snowboard lessons every Saturday and Sunday. Lessons are free for season pass holders.
If you’re looking to rent equipment, Chester Bowl offers season-long rentals. Sizes are limited, so you’re encouraged to call for more information.
Beware when taking out the sleds, toboggans, and saucers. The recent warm weather combined with cold bitter weather is creating some challenging hills.

New COVID-19 protocols involve masks being required in certain areas, and letting only members of the same household to ride ski lifts together.

Chester Bowl Director Dave Schaeffer said the ongoing support from the company helps ensure their work continues for years to come.
