TO spend 30 years doing the same job takes passion, dedication and hard work – especially when that job is a firefighter. Three decades after he first pulled on the uniform, Gus O’Rourke is retiring as assistant chief fire officer and he says it’s been an honour and a privilege to serve the communities where he has worked. None more so than when he was station commander in his hometown of Warrington, where he started his career in 1990 as he has always held Warrington very close to his heart. There have been highs and lows during the 59-year-old’s career and it’s with mixed emotions that he remembers some of the tragic events he has witnessed.
