Sobel says: “
My favorite films are those that invite the audience to step inside their protagonist’s journey. In our re-imagining fear of abandonment and the dreadful realization that those close to us may not be who they seem create an immersive nightmare, with visceral sensations front and center. I can’t wait to create this heart-stopping story with Amazon and the peerless Naomi Watts.“
Watts will also executive produce with the original film’s directors Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz. David Kaplan, Joshua Astrachan, Valery Guibal, and also Nicolas Brigaud-Robert are producing. Amazon is financing and also releasing worldwide.

LOS ANGELES:
Hollywood star Naomi Watts will topline the remake of Austrian psychological thriller Goodnight Mommy for Amazon Studios.
The English-language remake will be helmed by Take Me To The River director Matt Sobel, as per Variety.
Kyle Warren penned the script for the film, which will be produced by David Kaplan, Joshua Astrachan, Valery Guibal and Nicolas Brigaud-Robert.
for Amazon Studios, with
Take Me To The River’s Matt Sobel directing and original directors Severin Fiala and Veronicka Franz involved as executive producers (though how much involvement that actually entails is anyone’s guess). We won’t spoil the original for anyone lucky enough to have missed it (it’s good but it’s
a lot), but the basic premise is that it’s about two twins whose mother returns from some kind of operation with her face covered in bandages, leading them to conclude that she’s been replaced by an imposter. From there… it goes to some places.
