10:10 am, Tue December 15, 2020 Sandra Lindsay being vaccinated on Monday Jamaican-American Nurse Sandra Lindsay   Vice President-elect of the United States Kamala Harris has said thank you to Jamaican-American nurse, Sandra Lindsay, who on Monday became the first person in the US to get the covid-19 vaccine. In a tweet, the Vice-President expressed gratitude to Miss Lindsay thanking her for all that she had done for the US. Miss Lindsay, who is an intensive care nurse, migrated to the United States in 1986 to further her career in nursing. She said there has been a positive response to her decision to take the vaccine, with colleagues and relatives telling her that, “now that they’ve seen me take it, they themselves will take it.”

A Jamaican ICU nurse received the first non-trial COVID-19 vaccine administered in the state of New York on Monday, marking an historic step in the battle against the virus that has caused nearly 300,000 deaths in the US and roiled the economy for nine months.   Sandra Lindsay received the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in eastern Queens.       Workers applauded as Miss Lindsay received the shot in her left arm, the first of 170,000 initial doses of the vaccine expected to be administered in New York in the coming days.
