Transgender woman wins Miss Nevada USA Share

The crown for Miss Nevada USA on June 27 was awarded to Kataluna Enriquez, the first transgender woman ever to win the state’s competition.
The 27-year-old Filipino-American, who is also a fashion designer and model, beat out 21 other pageant contestants and will compete for the title of Miss USA in November. She’ll be the first openly transgender woman to compete in that pageant as well.
“One thing that is important for me is inclusivity, diversity and representation,” Enriquez told the Las Vegas-Review Journal. “It’s something I did not have growing up and is still lacking in today’s world.”
In March, Enriquez was crowned Miss
Silver State USA, which is described as the “biggest preliminary competition for the Miss Nevada USA pageant.”
The
Las Vegas Review-Journalreports that Enriquez first took part in transgender pageants in 2016 while working as a model, and started competing in women’s pageants last year.
Women’s beauty pageants are not the only place where biological males are beginning to dominate.

CNN– This November, an openly transgender woman will compete for the title of Miss USA for the first time. The 27-year-old beat 21 other candidates to be crowned Miss Nevada USA over the weekend.
Jackie Kosetek spoke with the winner and finds out just what this win means for the LGBTQ community in the pageant industry.
