Man with terminal illness granted his helicopter ride wish

A MAN from Barrow with motor neurone disease has recently managed to tick flying in a helicopter off his bucket list thanks to the help of his care staff and some community champions. Tracy Davis, a quality and care manager for Lakeland Care and Support Services in Ulverston, was searching for a helicopter to give her client Jim Simpson an experience of a lifetime after finding out he was an adrenaline junkie in his youth. On Christmas Eve, Tracy and 58-year-old’s core team took him to Doe Wood Lodges where he set off in a helicopter for a tour which went to Coniston, then back around Windermere for a view of Walney and Barrow from above.

Ashley Harrison, of Cherington Close, will also have to pay fines and costs totally more than £1,000 after admitting a number of offences including obstructing a police constable, having only a provisional licence when driving on his own, having no insurance, and driving without a seat belt. The 41-year-old had initially denied the charge of receiving stolen goods when knowing or believing them to be stolen, but was found guilty of that charge on November 24.
