They are made with a vegan recipe Nestlé is adding a new range pudding-inspired of Dessert Pastilles sweets to its Rowntree’s lineup. Called Dessert Pastilles, the new brand will contain four flavours: Mango Sorbet, Blueberry Pie, Cherry Bakewell and Apple Crumble. They will launch with a “slightly softer”, vegan-friendly recipe, which the brand already updated its core range to last year, after trialling more than 30 formulations to remove the gelatine while retaining the “iconic chew”. The NPD joins Nestlé’s growing vegan portfolio, which so far includes Jelly Tots, Vegan Carnation and Nescafé Gold plant-based lattes. Rowntree’s brand manager Meg Miller said the Dessert Pastilles were an “innovative twist” on the classic Fruit Pastilles, with four “on trend” flavours that evoked the taste of some of the “nation’s best-loved puddings”. “Our technicians had a lot of fun creating Dessert Pastilles, and we think they have done an amazing job.”

Pladis has given its McVitie’s Chocolate Digestives and Hobnobs brands a ‘dessert-inspired’ makeover. The limited-edition four-strong British Icons range features Strawberry Cheesecake and Lemon Drizzle Milk Chocolate Digestives, as well as Sticky Toffee Pudding and Chocolate Brownie Hobnobs. Pladis said the NPD was geared towards attracting younger shoppers “aged between 25 and 40 to the biscuit aisle”, as well as “driving purchasing frequency among existing McVitie’s shoppers”. Emma Stowers, brand director for McVitie’s at Pladis UK&I, described both brands as “proving more popular than ever, as shoppers enjoyed many more ‘hot drink moments’ at home” during 2020. “Innovation is crucial when it comes to keeping shoppers engaged with what’s on offer in the biscuit aisle,” Stowers said.
