Cooking Up Something Good: KEXP Staff and DJs Share Their Favorite Recipes KEXP
As you may have heard, we are offering a special KEXP Apron during the Spring Drive. With social distancing and the closure of in-restaurant dining, more of us are spending time building our skills in the kitchen, and what better pairing is there than food and music? Two of the greatest joys in life!
We asked our staff and DJs if they would share some of their favorite recipes they ve been cooking up at home. From savory family favorites to scrumptious-looking desserts, you ll find our taste in food is just as eclectic as our taste in music. And, of course, music puns abound. Take a look at some of the recipes below to get some inspiration while you wait for your KEXP apron to arrive!

Being a woman is complicated. As a woman in mostly dude-dominated industries, I’ve tried to hide the fact that I’m a person who could maybe procreate one day for my whole adult career. So when I showed up nine months pregnant for my third (but first in-person) interview at KEXP, I thought “Well, here goes nothing!”
Spoiler: They hired me! I had a baby in March 2020 (amidst not much other stress, really), went on maternity leave, and started at KEXP in June. I quickly realized how many wildly talented and kind women work at this place and how much they are doing. Working while female has only become more complicated. Our country watched 5.4 million women lose jobs since this pandemic began. I feel so lucky to have a job and feel so grateful for the women inside and outside of KEXP, on the airwaves and in my headphones who help me make it work.

Little Oblivions, ignores that impulse. Instead Baker doesn’t worry over how her fan base might view her. You can tell she’s writing for herself
this time around. Here Baker gives a deeper insight into her psyche, seemingly processing thoughts in real time as she sings. Many of the songs were written when the artist experienced a relapse after speaking extensively about her recovery from substance abuse. Rather than hiding that aspect of her personal life, Baker narrates her missteps and the frustrations she has with herself throughout the album.
In many ways,
Little Oblivions is a re-introduction to Baker’s music. Both of her previous records focused on a soft, minimalist sound that highlighted Baker’s powerful voice and words. It’s the kind of music that is best listened to alone. Even her live shows replicate those records’ intimacy; a cough from an audience member is enough to distract from Baker’s performance. But
