All three of South Africaâs economic sectors grew in the fourth quarter of 2020 with the economy growing by 1.5% quarter-on-quarter on a non-annualised basis.
This gives an annualised growth rate of 6,3%.
Stats SA announced on Tuesday that manufacturing and trade were the biggest contributors to growth in the final quarter of the year.
The country is still reeling from the economic implications of the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown.
Chief economist at Econometrix Azar Jammine says the latest statistics are signs of improvement.
âI donât think quarter four was set to give any major surprises. I think generally speaking it was recognised that the economy had been in recovery phase through the second half of last year with every progressive listing of lockdown restriction.

The ANCâs Interim Provincial Working Committee (IPWC) in the North West has reacted angrily to the recent violence and burning of private property in Jouberton near Klerksdorp.
Scenes of violence engulfed the area last week and in this, the local police station was stormed by a group of unidentified people suspected to be gang members. Another group of people allegedly went to the offices of the Matlosana Local Municipality in Klerksdorp and demanded that they be given tenders.
Following the ugly scenes of violence in the area, over 40 people were nabbed by the police in that area. The ANC IPWC Coordinator, Hlomani Chauke, has urged residents to fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies in their ongoing investigations to ensure that the individuals behind these violent attacks face the full might of the law.
