Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai on Monday handed over possession letters and keys of houses at Maloya to 15 families under Affordable Rental Housing Scheme.
He congratulated all the 1,700 beneficiaries and asked them to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
He stated that two-room flats with kitchen space, bath and balcony will provide them with a dignified living.
The minister appreciated efforts of the UT Administration for providing houses to the migrant labourers, street vendors, industrial workers and other poor people.
He also congratulated the UT Administration on being the first among all the states/UTs in the country to implement the Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs) Scheme and also completing about 80% target within such a short period.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday asked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to refrain from indulging in politics of the “lowest order and mudslinging”.
In a statement issued here, Amarinder told the AAP chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal that his meeting with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah was exclusively on one-point agenda to discuss issues related national security. He said that being the CM of the border state facing a hostile neighbour, it was his foremost responsibility to apprise the Union government on developments in the state and he would not hesitate to meet the Prime Minister and the Home Minister whenever issues of internal security are fanned by neighbouring hostile nations.
Protest site at Delhi s Singhu border
A farmer from Tarn Taran district of Punjab Monday allegedly tried to kill himself at the Singhu border area of Delhi.
According to sources, the 65-year-old farmer was first admitted to Sonipat’s civil hospital but was later referred to Rohtak’s Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences. He also wrote a note in support of protesting farmers.
A police spokesperson said that the farmer is currently under treatment and matter is being probed.
The incident comes days after a Sikh preacher Baba Ram Singh died by suicide at the same area. So far, 41 farmers have died in Punjab as well as Delhi since September 15 when protests against farm laws intensified in Punjab and Haryana. Of these, 30 were from Malwa belt alone, six from Doaba belt, two from Majha belt and three from Haryana.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has decided to hold Akhand Paths from January 2 onwards “to commemorate the sacrifice of Sant Ram Singh Singhriwala and 42 others who were martyred during the ongoing farmer agitation” besides “redoubling efforts to reach out to all like minded political parties to force the BJP led central government to repeal the three agri Acts”.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the party’s core committee which was presided over by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

The average growth rate is 0.4 per cent, in the last one week, the number of new infections has grown by an average of 0.4 per cent every day. The recovery ratio is 96.1 per cent. For every 100 confirmed cases, 96 have recovered from the virus.
The UT has conducted 1,68,234 tests as yet, out of which 530 were conducted on Sunday.
Mohali Deputy Commissioner, 34 others test Covid positive
Mohali: Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan was among the 35 people who tested positive for Covid-19 in the district on Sunday. Three deaths were also reported due to the infection, taking the tally of fatalities to 328.
The district has 17,498 cases in total, of which 1,803 remain active. Meanwhile, 15,367 people have been discharged upon recovery as yet, including 157 people who were discharged on Sunday.
