Okotoks Oilers defenceman Tanner Sawka comes back from double hip surgery

CALGARY Tanner Sawka was having an outstanding rookie season two years ago with the Okotoks Oilers.  He had two goals and 14 assists in 45 games but was playing in constant pain. Bone spurs had developed in his hips and Sawka says he knew he was going to have to do something about it.  So he put his hockey career on hold and went in for double hip surgery. Yeah I was like, pretty bummed out, Sawka said. I knew I had to get it done just for my way of life, the way I wanted to live in the future and then once I found out my hips needed to be worked on I was pretty bummed out but  I just had to be resilient.

Construction on new $70 5 milliion Agri-food Hub and Trade Centre begins in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, ALTA. Lethbridge s Exhibition Park is set to double its current hosting capacity with construction kicking off Wednesday on the city s new 268,000 square foot Agri-food and Trade Centre. This development will help position Alberta for prosperity by creating jobs, attracting investment, and showcasing our province’s growing value-added food sector.

Being the minister of health is always the toughest job in any provincial government, Kenney told reporters Wednesday. We absolutely want to sit down with the medical association and to continue the momentum we had going into this agreement. The Alberta Medical Association (AMA) said 53 per cent of physicians who voted rejected the tentative agreement with the province.

WALK ON THE WILD SIDE – OSPREY NEST INSTALLED AT PICTURE BUTTE RESERVOIR

PICTURE BUTTE, ALTA. Osprey arriving back to southern Alberta after a long migration, will have a new nesting structure at the Picture Butte reservoir. The nest platform, which was installed on a tall wooden pole, has been donated and built by AltaLink to be ready for the return of osprey this spring. Local volunteers with the Walk On the Wild Side Society brought branches to build the starter nest. “What we’re trying to do is get one of the higher predators in, which helps to balance the whole eco-system,” said John Kolk, a society member who farms nearby.
