The prospect of a new mountain bike venue in Colorado Springs coincides with a struggling effort to reimagine an old one. It s not either/or, said Cory Sutela, executive director of Medicine Wheel Trail Advocates, the sport s leading advocacy group locally.
But momentum sides with an envisioned series of rollers, berms and other skill-building spoils at Cresta Open Space on the city s southwest side. Meanwhile, on the northeast, dreams continue for a better Goose Gossage Bike Park. Make Goose Gossage Great Again, goes the name of the GoFundMe that started in early April, aimed at improving dirt jumps in need of better soil and, more expensive and logistical, a reliable source of water for sculpting ramps.
The 20 graduating high school seniors who win the Best & Brightest scholarship are different each year, but their accomplishments have been consistently stellar for three decades.
Since the annual community recognition program began 30 years ago, The Gazette’s Best & Brightest award has drawn the best of the best.
More than 100 students applied for this year’s award, sponsored by The Gazette Charities Foundation and the ARDI Foundation, which, in support of academic excellence, provides endowed academic chairs at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Outstanding academic achievements and contributions to the community are among the criteria 20 prominently community leaders looked for in judging the 2021 applicants.

Cheyenne Mountain High School hosts first mobile vaccination clinic to help curb COVID-19 school outbreaks
KRDO
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) Cheyenne Mountain High School hosted its first mobile vaccination clinic on Wednesday, in a multi-agency partnership aimed at reducing COVID-19 case outbreaks affecting El Paso County schools.
The clinic, coordinated in part by Nomi Health, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and El Paso County Public Health, vaccinated at least 300 students, parents and staff. The difficulty for our young people is they re still being exposed, District 12 spokesperson, Susan Payne said, and while we re seeing our older populations have been vaccinated, they have to make the decision because the quarantines are very hard, especially if they ve got extracurricular activities or academics or state testing.
