Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera on Wednesday addressed the nation during the “ceremonial guard mounting” by Malawi Defence Force soldiers at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe observing Martyrs’ Day when the country honours political heroes who gave their lives in the struggle against British colonialism.

Dressed in black suit with white shirt and black tie, Chakwera who was accompanied by First Lady Monica Chakwera, Vice President Saulos Chilima and Minister of Tourism and culture Micheal Usi, among other top government officials, watched the soldiers parade.
His statement on Friday came while the troops of China and India were involved in disengagement after a prolonged nine month standoff at the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.

Marshals are out and about across Hertsmere offering support to help keep residents, visitors and businesses safe. Wearing hi-vis jackets, the marshals role is to remind people of the importance of social distancing, wearing face-coverings and regularly washing their hands. They will also advise local businesses on queue management and on one-way systems. It comes as Hertsmere experiences its highest number of Covid cases ever, with a lack of testing available in the spring, with more than 2,000 cases recorded since December 20, according to government figures.
