UNAMID launches network for survivors of sexual violence in the greater Jebel Mara area of Darfur

On 10 December, the Women Protection Advisory Unit of the Human Rights Section (HRS) launched a Network for Survivors of Sexual Violence in the Greater Jebel Mara area of Darfur. The launch, held at Jebel Mara Gardens in Zalingei town, was part of events organized by HRS to commemorate the International Human Rights Day and to conclude this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, marked annually between 25 November and 10 December. The event attended by the Wali (Governor) of Central Darfur State, local community members, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), other Government officials and UNAMID staff included cultural dances, songs, and drama performances.

A North West man was sentenced to life in the North West High Court sitting in Mmabatho following his conviction for the murder of his girlfriend.
Patrick Kabelo Seleho was on Thursday sentenced for murdering his girlfriend, Yvonne Dibueng Mkhomte, in Zonderwater in Potchefstroom in 2019. The convicted murderer killed Mkhomte in cold blood by assaulting her with a sharp object and killing her with a spade on the night of 13 May last year in the presence of her three kids who were sleeping. This after Seleho accused the deceased of cheating.
The National Prosecution Authority s (NPA) regional spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, says Seleho confessed to the heinous crime and pleaded guilty.
