Image: Jerry Marshall A NEW flood warning has been issued by the Environment Agency for two Northwich villages which were badly affected by Storm Christoph last week. The body has announced a red flood warning for the River Weaver at Acton Bridge and Weaverham – meaning flooding is expected and immediate action is required. An Environment Agency spokesman said: “River levels are rising at the Pickerings Cut river gauge as a result of persistent rainfall throughout this morning, January 28. “We believe there is a possibility of flooding for some properties close to the River Weaver along Warrington Road and Sandy Lane at around 1pm this afternoon.

Cheshire West leaders call for Government support to help Storm Christoph flooding victims

LEADERS with Cheshire West and Chester Council have called on the government to support residents affected by flooding in the borough. In a letter to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs George Eustice, the CWaC leader Cllr Louise Gittins said action is needed to protect the borough from future flooding. Areas of Cheshire West including Chester, Ellesmere Port, Farndon, Tattenhall, Northwich, Winsford and Acton Bridge were all hit by heavy rain brought by Storm Christoph last week. Across the borough, over 100 residents were evacuated from flooded homes, many of whom were provided with temporary accommodation.
