Child psychologist Dr. Steve O Brien has some tips:
Get a read on your children
Find out what they already know, what they already seen and ask how they feel about it.
Consider your child s age
Younger children tend to need more reassurance that they’re safe. They also need some healthy distraction so they don’t get overwhelmed by feelings, and they need to know it’s OK to feel the way they do and what can be done to feel better.
As kids get older, they’re going to need more information about beliefs people have.
Avoid the two extremes of too much or too little information

“We’re hearing about heightened anxiety and higher stress levels,” he said. “I believe the change in routines, the loss of support structure, has impacted students across the spectrum.”
