Businesses plan to spend an estimated £15.8 billion in electric vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure in the next 12 months.
A new report by Centrica Business Solutions says the projected investment is more than a 50% increase from last year’s total of £10.5 billion that was invested in EV technology by UK firms.
The research, which polled 200 businesses, suggests nearly 40% of those surveyed said they had boosted their EV fleet between April 2020 and March 2021.
Of these businesses, almost six-in-ten cited the need to meet corporate sustainability targets as the biggest driver for the upgrade of their vehicles.
The second biggest factor to influence their decision to invest was the disruption caused by low and zero emission driving zones.

A 50% spending increase on fleet electrification is planned by UK businesses over the next year, according to research by Centrica Business Solutions.
It found that a total of £15.8 billion is set to be invested in EVs and charging points, compared with £10.5 billion in the year to March 2021.
In addition, 67% of companies surveyed said they were well placed to be ready for the UK Government s planned ban on new petrol and diesel car sales by 2030.
The survey found 40% of those questioned had increased the number of EVs on their fleet over the previous year, with 58% of those naming a need to meet corporate sustainability targets as a motivation, while 51% cited low- and zero-emission zones and 37% named SMR and whole-life cost advantages.

That is according to a new survey from Centrica Business Solutions. The survey polled 200 UK businesses that operate fleets and the findings were published on Wednesday (5 May).
Two-thirds of the companies polled said that they are on track to switch to a fully electric fleet by 2030 – the time at which the UK Government’s ban on new petrol and diesel car sales will come into effect.
