This was declared by United Broiler Raisers’ Association (UBRA) President Bong Inciong during the Farmers and Fisherfolks Congress on Friday. According to Inciong, the country’s food producers are now experiencing the worst crisis in years amid the pandemic due to several factors, such as “decades of government neglect, the prevalence of COVID-19 pandemic, and pro-importation policies of the government.” (MB file, Keith Bacongco) “We are now paying the price for the long-term neglect of the sector. The economy and our people would not be as badly hit if agri-fisheries were in a better place [prior to the pandemic],” Inciong said.

PCA, PCC distributes buffalo carabaos to coconut farmers in Biliran town

NAVAL, Biliran, May 5 (PIA) The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) in cooperation with the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC) distributed 34 heads of female buffalo carabaos to farmer-beneficiaries of the Barangay Canila Farmers Cooperative for breeding ang milk production. According to Jeson Sarsosa, coconut development officer of PCA-Biliran, each of the 17 qualified coconut farmer-beneficiaries of Brgy. Canila Farmers Cooperative in the municipality of Biliran received 2-3 heads of buffalo carabaos with forage of Guinea and Nappier grass. All coconut farmer-beneficiaries were trained on proper management of buffalo carabaos. As previously planned, the cooperative will supply carabao milk to Lico Agrarian Reform Cooperative, in the municipality of Naval, to be processed to other by-products for sale as their livelihood.
