The nut of the argument over a climate bill wending its way through the Legislature is about its cost to consumers. But proponents of the Climate and Community Investment Act (CCIA) say some politicians and business organizations have been spreading misinformation.
A little background:
The Climate and Community Protection Act (CCPA), which passed in July of 2019, sets one of the most aggressive climate goals in the country.
It creates legally binding emission reduction standards to transition New York completely off of fossil fuels by 2050. Additionally, it mandates that 40% of state climate and energy funding be invested in environmental justice communities,
ALBANY, NY – This week, Senator Biaggi and the Senate Democratic Majority advanced a legislative package to support survivors of domestic violence and combat human trafficking in New York State that builds on the Conference’s continued work to provide greater protections for those impacted by domestic violence and the horrors of human trafficking.

Senator Anna M. Kaplan (D-North Hills) and the Senate Democratic Majority advanced a legislative package to support survivors of domestic violence and combat human trafficking in New York State that builds on the Conference’s continued work to provide greater protections for those impacted by domestic violence and the horrors of human trafficking. This package relieves survivors of domestic violence from utility contracts, expands eligibility for the “Non-Parent” Grant, seizes firearms from perpetrators, expands the statute of limitations on domestic violence claims, aids prosecutors in identifying repeat offenders, and protects the voting records of victims of sexual and domestic violence.
The Senate advanced legislation to support survivors of domestic violence and combat human trafficking in New York State. This package will relieve survivors of domestic violence from utility contracts, expand eligibility for the “Non-Parent” Grant, seize firearms from perpetrators, expand the statute of limitations on domestic violence claims, aid prosecutors in identifying repeat offenders, and protect the voting records of victims of sexual and domestic violence.
In addition, this legislative package will require public posting of human trafficking information, mandate state contractors to submit human trafficking prevention statements, expand the statute of limitations on human trafficking claims, and establish human trafficking recognition training for all lodging employees. New York bill could halt digital currency mining pending environmental impact assessment Tech
A new bill presented in New York could effectively implement a moratorium on block reward mining in the state until authorities have the chance to understand the environmental impacts.
Introduced by Senator Kevin Parker, New York Senate Bill 6486 has now been referred to the Environmental Conservation Committee for further consideration.
Under the terms proposed in the legislation, block reward mining firms would be subject to a three-year moratorium on mining, allowing the state to carry out a full range of environmental impact assessments, looking at greenhouse gas emissions, the impact on air quality, the impact on water quality and the impact on wildlife in the state.
