President Uhuru Kenyatta has suffered two major losses in a span of one week in May 2021. First, his Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) was declared null and void by the High Court.
Secondly, Uhuru s Jubilee Party lost the Juja by-election to its own member and Gatundu South MP, Moses Kuria. To worsen the situation, Kuria is considered a rebel member after his candidate won the seat through the People s Empowerment Party (PEP).
PEP s George Koimburi defeated Jubilee s Susan Njeri Waititu - the widow of the late Juja MP Francis Wakapee Waititu.

Durbin pledges support for West Central Illinois
Patrick Stout, Voice Correspondent
MACOMB U.S. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois, the Senate Majority Whip, met Wednesday with 46 members of the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce via ZOOM from his office in Chicago. He said that he would later be traveling to Springfield and then to Bloomington to tour the former Mitsubishi plant.
Durbin said the Biden administration s American Rescue Plan would deliver $13.7 billion in state and local dollars, with $5.7 million going to McDonough County. I think we re on the road to being back in business, he said.
Brad Bainter of Western Illinois University told Durbin that rural poverty has now surpassed urban poverty in Illinois. He said more money is needed for four-year colleges and universities, especially if President Joe Biden succeeds in making community colleges tuition-free.

Democratic state lawmakers appear to be drafting a bill to erase the state s secretive policing laws and open up disciplinary records to the public.
The proposal is part of a 62-page draft report recently shared with members of Delaware s police accountability task force as it prepares to hold a meeting next week to decide what policing reforms to ask of the General Assembly.
The policy recommendation report, a copy of which was obtained by Delaware Online/The News Journal, includes the draft of a bill to amend the Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights, a controversial section of state law that dictates how officers are disciplined and how much the public is allowed to know about that discipline.
