Harriet E. Lemons
LANEXA Our beloved Harriet E. Lemons, 75, suddenly departed this life Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020, at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, Williamsburg. Her earthly journey began Feb. 11, 1945, daughter of the late John F. And Frances T. Lemons in New Kent County.
She was educated in New Kent County Public Schools, graduating from George W. Watkins High School with the Class of 1963. She was employed with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, where she retired after several years of service.
Harriet spent countless hours crocheting afghans, sweaters and scarves. She also loved a good search-and-find word game and T.V. shows like Rifleman and Gunsmoke. Her favorite hobby was her family. She loved spending time with them as much as they enjoyed spending time with her. She truly will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
Alva Harris Simms
WILLIAMSBURG Retired U.S. Army Master Sgt. Alva Harris Simms, 85, peacefully passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.
Master Sgt. Simms served more than 26 years as a Korean and Vietnam War veteran. He completed two tours in Vietnam, three tours in Germany and one in Turkey.
His decorations included the Bronze Star Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and eight Good Conduct medals.
Upon retiring from active duty, Master Sgt. Simms was employed for 20 years at the U.S. Army Transportation School, Fort Eustis, as an instructor and supervisory training specialist. He received the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service when he retired from civilian service.

Former fullback for the Baltimore Ravens and resident of York County, Lorenzo Taliaferro, died today at the age of 28.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Lorenzo Taliaferro. Lorenzo was a kind, smart, respectful and determined young man someone always committed to his teammates and well-liked by everyone in our organization. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Lorenzo’s family,” John Harbaugh, head coach for the Baltimore Ravens said in a statement released on the teams’ Twitter.
