“These (safety) actions included monitoring the health and body temperatures of employees and contractors, testing employees for COVID-19 and antibodies, making modifications to company facilities, obtaining personal protective equipment such as masks (and) gloves, placing signage on buildings and trucks to ensure social distancing, and other safety-related COVID protocols,” said Joel Baker, an attorney representing Gulf Power.
Among the terms of the settlement, Gulf Power will be allowed to spread the recovery costs over three years, starting with Jan. 1, 2022, as part of its fuel costs set for the 2022 calendar year. The utility initially sought more than $20 million, but the Office of Public Counsel, which represents consumers, protested.

Natural gas utilities reported another solid quarter of earnings to kick off 2021, with several gas distributors crediting winter storm tailwinds for profits that exceeded expectations and strong year-over-year gains.
Eight of nine gas utilities in a group selected by S&P Global Market Intelligence posted EPS that surpassed S&P Capital IQ consensus normalized earnings estimates. All of the companies posted year-over-year EPS gains, and five of those companies have now posted at least four consecutive quarters of earnings improvement.
The earnings period included February s devastating winter storms, which plunged parts of the Southern and Central U.S. into blackouts and contributed to dozens of deaths. The event led to a run on gas demand and extreme price spikes, resulting in sky-high gas purchase costs for some utilities.
The natural gas storage report from the EIA for the week ending April 30th indicated that the amount of natural gas held in underground storage in the US rose by 60 billion cubic feet to 1,958 billion cubic feet by the end of the week, which left our gas supplies 345 billion cubic feet, or 15.0% below the 2,303 billion cubic feet that were in storage on April 30th of last year, and 61 billion cubic feet, or 3.0% below the five-year average of 2,019 billion cubic feet of natural gas that have been in storage as of the 30th of April in recent years..the 60 billion cubic feet that were added to US natural gas storage this week was more than the average forecast of a 51 billion cubic foot addition from an S&P Global Platts survey of analysts, but was well below the average addition of 81 billion cubic feet of natural gas that have typically been injected into natural gas storage during the same week over the past 5 years, as well as well below the 103 billion cubic feet added to natural
