[Photo by Derrick Stuckly] On a night where the Howard Payne Lady Jackets seemed a step or two off in all aspects of their game, the season came to an end as the Sul Ross Lady Lobos captured a 75-65 victory in the quarterfinals of the American Southwest Conference Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament Wednesday at the Brownwood Coliseum. The victory is the first for Sul Ross (10-13), the third seed from the West Division, in the ASC tournament in just their second appearance. Despite the loss and a chance to host the rest of the ASC tournament, Howard Payne (10-7) still owns the most wins in the history of the tournament with 22.

[File photo by Derrick Stuckly]AUSTIN – The Howard Payne Lady Jackets held on to second place in the American Southwest Conference West Division with a 65-55 victory at Concordia Thursday night, completing a season sweep. The Lady Jackets (9-6, 5-3) wrap up the regular season at Mary Hardin-Baylor (11-7, 7-6) – a 69-63 winner over Sul Ross (8-13, 6-5) Thursday night – at 1 p.m. Saturday. All three of the aforementioned teams are still in the hunt for the No. 2 seed and the right to host a first-round game in the revamped ASC Championship Tournament. HPU would clinch the No. 2 seed with a win, Sul Ross would be No. 2 with a win and an HPU loss, and UMHB would be No. 2 with a win and a Sul Ross loss at Concordia (2-7, 2-7).
