California s iconic sandy beaches and dramatic coastline are some of the most beautiful parts of our state, and important habitat for wildlife, from sandpipers to sea turtles and the California sea otters. Unfortunately, our ocean and coastline are facing threats. For too long, oil drilling has spilled toxic oil into our ocean, overfishing has depleted our ocean of life and our waste producing society has created a plastic pollution nightmare. On top of this, climate change is wreaking havoc on ocean ecosystems.
That is why Environment California runs the campaign to Defend our Oceans, to protect our marine environments from further destruction.
EPA takes aim at Trump-era attack on California vehicle emissions standards
If both actions move forwarded as expected, California will once again have a Clean Air Act waiver that allows it to set its own emissions standards that are tougher than those set federally. Before the Trump administration ripped up the waiver, 13 other states and Washington, D.C., had signed onto California s benchmarks, helping shift the entire auto industry toward building cleaner cars.
“I am a firm believer in California’s long-standing statutory authority to lead, EPA Administrator Michael Regan said in a statement. The 2019 decision to revoke the state’s waiver to enforce its greenhouse gas pollution standards for cars and trucks was legally dubious and an attack on the public’s health and wellbeing.
