Clean energy investment a priority for Oman

The Regional Climate Dialogue has been organised in the United Arab Emirates to discuss plans countries have towards tackling climate change.
Abu Dhabi: An agency set up in Oman to attract more investment into the country has made securing funding for renewable energy projects among its priorities, a senior official at the Environment Authority has said.
Speaking at the Regional Climate Dialogue, a meeting which has been organised in the United Arab Emirates to discuss plans countries have towards tackling climate change and related issues, Dr Abdullah bin Ali Al Omari, the chairman of the Environment Authority, said developing renewable energy is part of the country’s Vision 2040 plan.

Muscat: More than 10,000 trees have been planted across Oman by the OQ company as part of its Corporate Social Investments initiatives and in alignment with the National Initiative for Planting Wild trees.
A statement issued online by OQ company said: OQ Green Initiative aims at planting half million trees across Oman and in areas where OQ operates. This initiative comes as part of OQ’s Corporate Social Investments initiatives and in alignment with the National Initiative for Planting Wild trees and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources and Environment Authority. Till date, 10,388 trees have been planted by 685 volunteers.
PDO backs major desert agriculture project

Muscat: Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has signed an agreement with the Agriculture Production and Marketing Company (APMC) to plant crops and 500,000 trees in the desert over the next 10 years.
The Memorandum of Collaboration (MOC) focuses on a 35km2 tract of land at Rahab in the south of PDO’s concession area.
The new scheme contributes to the need for a “green and circular economy that addresses national needs and moves consistently with the global trends” outlined in the Oman Vision 2040 that serves national environmental, food security and In-Country Value (ICV) objectives.

Muscat: The head of the Environment Authority has decided to form a support team for the transition to the use of environmentally friendly bags and to set up a mechanism to ban the use of plastic shopping bags during the coming period.
His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali bin Abdullah Al Omari, the Head of the Environment Authority, issued an administrative decision No. (61/2021) to form a team to support the transition to the use of environmentally friendly bags. A statement by the EA said: The team will be responsible for setting up a mechanism to prohibit the use of plastic shopping bags during the coming period, and to avoid the challenges resulting from the excessive consumption of 50 micron plastic shopping bags, in order to reach the objectives envisaged by the implementation of the decision.
