We’ll admit, we weren’t entirely sure what to expect when we agreed to judge the annual Best of CES Awards without an in-person show. How many companies would show up to an online-only show? What would we lose without being able to wander the halls of a massive convention center and see the products up close? As it turns out, we needn’t have worried. More than 1,900 brands, big and small, turned up this year, according to the Consumer Technology Association, the industry group that organizes the show each year. What’s more, many companies found socially distant ways to show us their latest and greatest in person, ahead of the show. (That’s especially useful for the TV category, wouldn’t you say?)

Samsung Electronics recently unveiled its 2021 portfolio of Neo QLED and Lifestyle TV displays during its first-ever virtual First Look event, ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2021. The new line underscores Samsung’s commitment to accessibility, sustainability, and innovation with new advancements that help redefine the role of television in consumer homes.
“During the past year, we have witnessed the pivotal role technology played in helping us carry on with our lives and stay connected with each other,” said JH Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Our commitment to an inclusive and sustainable future goes hand-in-hand with our relentless pursuit for innovation to meet consumers’ ever-changing needs – from reducing the carbon footprint of our products, to providing a suite of accessibility features, to offering an unparalleled viewing experience that fits each user’s lifestyle.”
In addition to an array of new televisions, Samsung has also announced a more eco-friendly remote control at CES 2021. The Solar Cell Remote Control can be powered by both indoor and outdoor light, or just regular USB if the former two are insufficient. According to Samsung, the remote itself is also pretty eco-friendly, as 24 percent of its 31 grams of plastic is made from “recycled polyethylene terephtalate.”
The tech giant says their Solar Cell remote control is the first of its kind. Not only does it remove the need for batteries as it can be charged by light or USB, it is also made from recycled bottles
