Solar cell efficiency records have continued to fall after LONGi toasted breakthroughs in both high-efficiency p-type solar cells and commercial heterojunction (HJ) cells.
LONGi revealed today that its Cell R&D Center had achieved a new record cell efficiency of a p-type monocrystalline bifacial TOPCon solar cell of 25.02%, the first time a p-type cell had recorded a conversion efficiency in excess of 25%.
The record was validated by the Institute for Solar Energy Research (ISFH) in Hamelin, Germany, which also confirmed LONGi’s record for its commercial-sized monocrystalline HJ solar cell produced by LONGi’s New Technology R&D Center.

LONGi has set new cell efficiency records for N- and P-type TOPcon and HJT. The company announced in April its record of 25.09% for N-Type TOPCon solar cell efficiency and, one month later, testing at the Institute for Solar Energy Research (ISFH) in Hamelin, Germany, has confirmed that the conversion efficiency of N-type monocrystalline bifacial TOPCon solar cells developed at LONGi’s Cell R&D Center has now reached 25.21%. The Cell R&D Center has also achieved an innovative breakthrough in high-efficiency P-type monocrystalline solar cell product technology. Again tested by ISFH (Calibration Mark: 001592), the efficiency of a commercial size P-type monocrystalline bifacial TOPCon solar cell exceeded 25% for the first time, setting a world record of 25.02% in the process.

Solar cell manufacturer Wujiang Maxwell Technologies has celebrated a record mass production efficiency for its heterojunction (HJ) solar cell.
Maxwell Technologies said today (2 June) that its HJ solar cell reached a conversion efficiency of 25.05% during testing.
The efficiency rate was certified by the Institute for Solar Energy Research (ISFH) in Hamelin, Germany, more than two years after Maxwell first launched its HJ PECVD and supporting equipment project in January 2019. The company said in a statement that it has passed a “milestone for promoting the commercial application of HJT solar cells”.
