Surat: After a decline in Covid-19 cases in Surat city for two days, the number of cases again showed an upward trend with 1,858 new people testing positive on Tuesday taking the total number of cases to 85,108. On Monday, 1472 new cases were reported while a day before 1,690 people had tested positive.
The civic body also reported deaths of 23 infected people, 13 of whom were less than 50 years of age. Athwa and Rander zones continued to report maximum number of cases in the city with 342 and 359 people testing positive in the two zones respectively.
On Tuesday, 1,225 people were also discharged from hospitals while 3,873 patients are still under treatment. At New Civil Hospital, of the 1,518 beds, 1,120 were occupied and at SMIMER Hospital, 517 beds of total 941 beds were occupied.

AHMEDABAD: It could well be the fortnight that has changed the course of the pandemic in Gujarat. If one takes the base of the 2011 Census data as an indication of the districts’ and state’s population (6.04 crore), the state had 4 active cases per 10,000 population on April 10 at 22,692.
The number shot to 19 on April 25 as the state’s active cases tally reached 1.15 lakh recording a five-fold rise.
The districts’ analysis showed that Ahmedabad had 4,583 active cases on April 10, which rose 11 times to 48,555. Tapi recorded an 11-fold rise from 1 active case per 10,000 population to 11 on Sunday.

SURAT: Gujarat BJP chief and Navsari MP CR Paatil s office on Monday claimed that his website has been hacked apparently by a Pakistani hacker.
The hacker, who identified himself as Mohammad Bilal from Pakistan, uploaded some objectionable content on the homepage of Paatil s website, a statement said, adding that no police complaint has been filed yet.
The objectionable content has been removed, it said.

SURAT: At least four critically ill COVID-19 patients died at different hospitals in Surat in Gujarat where they were shifted along with 12 others from the ICU ward of a private hospital following a fire, officials said on Monday.
A total of 16 patients were rescued and shifted to different hospitals from the ICU ward of Ayush Hospital located on the fifth floor of a building after a fire broke out there around 11:40 pm on Sunday due to a short circuit.
