Markets likely to open flat

Fear over continuous rise in Covid cases, extended lockdowns in States likely to cap upside Markets are likely to open marginally down on Tuesday, amidst mixed global cues. Though the positive recovery rate in Covid cases bodes well, economists are still grappling with uncertainty, analysts said. The SGX Nifty is currently hovering around 14,663 (8 00 am IST), which is about 20 points lower as against Nifty May futures that closed at 14,685 on the NSE on Monday.
As Japan market is closed, other Asian markets provide little cues. Overnight, the US markets ended sharply higher with Dow and S&P 500 climbing 0.70 per cent and 0.3 per cent respectively. However, tech-heavy Nasdaq closed 0.5 per cent lower.

Equity indices traded near the flat line with small gains in morning trade. PSU banks were in demand while FMCG and IT shares corrected. The Nifty hovered at 14,650 level.
At 10:32 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was up 71.76 points or 0.15% at 48,789.49. The Nifty 50 index was up 28.5 points or 0.19% at 14,662.90.
In broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index was up 0.95% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index was surged 0.91%.
The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 1735 shares rose and 805 shares fell. A total of 147 shares were unchanged.
COVID-19 Update:
Total COVID-19 confirmed cases worldwide stood at 153,193,587 with 3,209,919 global deaths.
Procter & Gamble Hygiene s Jan-Mar net profit up 8%

Mumbai, May 4 : Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care Ltd on Tuesday reported an 8 per cent increase on a year-on-year in its net profit for the January-March quarter at Rs 98 crore.
In a statement, the company said that during the period under review, it delivered sales of Rs 760 crore, up 16 per cent compared to the same period a year ago.
Both the feminine care and health care business delivered strong double-digit sales growth in the quarter, it said.
Further, the Board of Directors declared a special interim dividend of Rs 150 on every equity share of Rs 10. The record date for the dividend will be May 12, 2021.
