NEW DELHI: The BJP on Saturday released its first list of 57 candidates for the upcoming West Bengal elections, pitting TMC rebel Suvendu Adhikari against chief minister Mamata Banerjee from the key Nandigram constituency.
On Friday, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee had announced her candidature from Nandigram instead of her traditional Bhawanipore seat, in a move that was seen as an open challenge to her former aide Adhikari who was a sitting MLA from the constituency.
Welcoming Mamata s decision, Adhikari had told his supporters that he will see the chief minister in the battlefield and asserted that she would lose and leave on May 2, when the results will be declared.
