FLORIDA BUILDINGS I LOVE: No. 78: Venice Beach Pavilion, 1964, Venice
101 The Esplanade. Cyril Tucker, architect; William Lindh, engineer
Harold Bubil
This week, we head south less than two miles to the “island” of Venice.
Its beach may be known for sharks’ teeth, but it has a pretty sharp piece of architecture, too, in its shading pavilion.
The 1964 pavilion was designed by architect Cyril Tucker. Engineer William Lindh rhymes with “wind” gets at least half of the credit, as the pavilion’s roof has stayed in place through a progression of tropical storms over the ensuing 54 years.
The shape of the roof is a hyperbolic paraboloid. It looks like a kite ready to take flight, but Mr. Lindh has taken care of that.

Judge rules in favor of North Port in Sunshine Law suit
NORTH PORT – North Port resident Stephanie Gibson said Wednesday that she will file 42 separate public records requests to receive recordings of the investigation into the conduct of former North Port City Manager Peter Lear, after a circuit court judge declined to compel the city to release the information.
When Gibson initially filed her request for the 42 recordings, the city estimated that it would cost $1,347.50 for the city to go through the interviews and redact private information, be it Social Security numbers or health opinions that may violate HIPPA laws.
Not guilty plea entered in illegal dentistry case Ekaterina Seletskaya (Source: Sarasota Sheriff) By ABC7 Staff | February 19, 2021 at 1:55 PM EST - Updated February 19 at 1:55 PM
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - A North Port woman accused of practicing dentistry in her home without a license has pleaded not guilty.
Ekaterina Gennadyevna Seletskaya’s written plea was entered by her attorney, Anthony Ryan, during her arraignment today in 12th Circuit Court.
Seletskaya was arrested in January and charged after investigators say she was offering unlicensed dentistry services out of her home.
She told investigators that she had been a dentist in Russia before moving to the U.S. In October, a complaint was made to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office that Seletskaya was offering dental services in her home to local Russian and Ukranian patients via word of mouth in the Warm Mineral Springs community.
