The Ford government has voted against an NDP bill that would have extended the temporary ban on evictions until one year after the pandemic is declared over by the chief medical officer of health.

As some regions moved out of the emergency order on Tuesday, and Toronto, Peel, and York Regions are expected to move out on Feb. 22, critics argue that thousands of people could potentially be out on the street in a matter of a week, if they can’t pay rent.
A Toronto group that calls itself Friends of the Foundry staged a "love-in" on Valentine's Day for four industrial heritage buildings it is trying to save from demolition downtown.
The Ontario Divisional Court has ordered an interim halt to the demolition of the Dominion Foundry.

An Ontario judge has temporarily stopped the province from demolishing a group of heritage buildings at the Dominion Foundry Complex in Toronto s West Donlands pending a decision at the end of February.
In a statement Friday evening, the group Friends of the Foundry says it is very relieved by the decision of Justice David Corbett to protect the buildings from further damage until next month s hearing. Word of the decision comes after crews began tearing down buildings on the provincially owned site on Jan. 18.

A judge will rule on Friday whether or not the demolition of a downtown heritage site should be put on hold.
The City of Toronto is asking for an injunction to stop the provincial tear down of the Dominion Wheel and Foundry Buildings in the West Don Lands until the next council meeting at the end of February.
